AB 2862, the bill originally meant to put California pet store management into criminal code, was amended to be referred to the state Department of Consumer Affairs.
The amended billed easily passed both the state Assembly and the state Senate, but the governor reportedly vetoed AB 2862 due to funding issues.
PIJAC’s lobbyist, Kevin Pedrotti, indicated that he “suspected” a veto might result because the governor had signed a number of animal bills that did not include funding anywhere near where it would cost to put into effect regulations called for by AB 2862.
